About CIICT06

Conference Sponsors

China and Ireland are currently in the process of developing collaboration, including leading-edge research ties in the Information and Communications Technology area. Links have already been forged at governmental level under the auspices of the China/Ireland Science and Technology Research Fund, an agreement on Scientific and Technological Co-operation between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of Ireland signed on the 8th September 2000. The purpose of this is to contribute to future co-operation in the field of science and technology between both countries. The interest of both governments is in furthering the development of their respective information and communications technology industries, and in supporting the expansion of domestic and international applications markets for their products, services and technologies.

There is already an established academic collaboration between China and Ireland, through joint research projects and reciprocal participation at international conferences. CIICT06 will focus on encouraging further growth in academic collaboration between researchers in China and Ireland in the broad area of Information and Communications Technologies, thus facilitating exchange of ideas and dissemination of results of collaborative work.

This first CIICT conference is being jointly sponsored and organized by Hangzhou Dianzi University and Dublin City University, and will be held in Hangzhou Dianzi University in the autumn of 2006. It is hoped that the conference will include participation from a number of Irish and Chinese universities, and from researchers in other countries.

Accepted papers will be published in a conference proceedings.

Conference Venue - Hangzhou, China

Capital of Zhejiang Province, Hangzhou is a beautiful and prosperous city in south-eastern China with a rich cultural heritage. Honoured as "the finest and most splendid city in the world" by the Italian traveller Marco Polo and enjoying a culture of 8,000 years, Hangzhou was the capital of China in the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279). As a tourist resort of world fame, it offers many scenic spots and historic sites such as West Lake, Soul-Retreat Buddhist Temple, Six-Harmony Pagoda and the Liangzhu Relics as well as four national museums of silk, tea, traditional Chinese medicine and pottery.

Hangzhou is located 200 km southwest of Shanghai and enjoys a mild climate throughout the year. It covers an area of 1.66 km2 with a population of 6.2 million. It is one of the top ten largest industrial cities of China and is also a scientific centre.

There are two international airports in Shanghai serving the region, Pudong Airport and Hongqiao Airport. There is also an international airport in Hangzhou Xiaoshan.

Travelling from Ireland

Approximate cost of return airfare Dublin to Shanghai (Pudong International Airport) is between 700 to 1000 Euro in October with KLM. Further details of travel arrangements and hotel accommodation will be announced shortly. The conference organising committee will be happy to help you with travel and hotel bookings.
