Software Packages

Most of these packages are required for this course, others are optional. 


Adobe Acrobat Reader (required)

Adobe Acrobat Reader is free, and freely distributable, software that lets you view and print Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) files. 

        Download from here: Adobe Acrobat Reader  (~ 4-5 Mb) (choose your OS here)

Installation is very straightforward, follow the well documented instructions of the installer.


  Cortona VRML Client

The Cortona VRML client can be used to view virtual worlds written in VRML. Cortona is available for PC, Mac, Mac OS X and Pocket PC platforms.

Installation is very straightforward, just download the installer and follow the on-screen instructions.


 Java Standard Edition Development Kit (JDK)

The Java Standard Edition Development Kit (JDK) version 6 will be used in this module.

This distribution is in the form of an installer and will install automatically on your system. You should also download a local copy of the JDK Application Programmer's Interface (API) Documentation from the same link. This will avoid you having to connect to the Internet whenever you need to find out about a class.


 Java 3D

The Java 3D API version 1.5 will be used in conjunction with the JDK version 6 to enable the development of 3D capable applications.

This distribution is in the form of an installer and should install automatically in your system. You should also download a local copy of the Java 3D API documentation from the same link. This will avoid you have to connect to the Internet whenever you need to find out about a class.


 Eclipse SDK

The Eclipse Software Development Kit (SDK) will be used during this module for the development of all Java/Java 3D applications.

Note: The Eclipse SDK does not require installation. The application can be launched immediately once the files have been unzipped.
