Exercise Format and Marking Scheme

During the test, you must prepare a report. This should be generally in accordance with with the Software Engineering 1: Laboratory Report Guidelines. However, the details of the marking scheme will be somewhat different.

The test exercise will have three distinct sections. The report should have separate Plan, Coding, Testing and Conclusion sections for each part. The three parts do build on one another. Ideally, you should complete the first part in order to attempt the second, and similarly, you should complete the second part in order to attempt the third. However, notwithstanding this, it is recommended that you plan your allocation of time between the three parts carefully in advance, and stick to this allocation during the test. Ensure that you allow adequate time for re-reading and finalising the report at the end.

In summary, the layout of the test, and allocation of marks, will be as follows:

Note that no marks will be awarded for mere submission in this test, and that the "bonus" marks have been redistributed rather than being kept separate. Otherwise this scheme is still largely comparable to the first test.

And, of course: the overall mark for the course will be calculated as:

    (0.25 x Test 1 Mark) + (0.75 x Test 2 Mark)

You require an overall mark of 40% to pass the course. So if you got less than that in Test 1, you'll have to score somewhat above 40% in Test 2 to get through.
